Community Engagement
TRIUMPH engages the community in ending the HIV epidemic through a formal Community Advisory Board (CAB). The CAB is comprised of a dynamic group of local leaders who are committed to ensuring equitable access to HIV prevention and care services throughout San Diego County. Members have direct experience working in San Diego communities affected by HIV, and reflect the diversity of our region’s communities in terms of age, race and ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and language.
The group meets monthly to provide critical input on the design and implementation of interventions that reduce HIV transmission in San Diego, as well as direct public health resources to the neighborhoods and people who need them most.

Meet the TRIUMPH CAB Leaders
Dr. Kiyomi Tsuyuki (she/her/hers) serves as chair of the TRIUMPH CAB. She is a health behavior scientist who investigates the social and structural determinants of the syndemic overlap of substance use, mental health, violence, and HIV/STI prevention and care. Dr. Tsuyuki applies a social justice framework and bio-behavioral approach to understand how chronic stress from socio-structural inequity are linked to health disparities and syndemic outcomes.
Mr. Benjamin T. Hackworth, MPH (he/him/his) serves as co-chair of the TRIUMPH CAB. He has more than four years’ experience providing community presentations, technical assistance, and trainings on substance use and mental health prevention services and currently is an independent contractor. His primary role serves to collect, analyze, and evaluate HIV data for local, state, and national dissemination through written reports and oral presentations.
